Joseph and Mary follow the Judaic Law by bringing their child Jesus to Jerusalem to dedicate him to the Lord. Luke then journeys beyond the law to tell a grand story with a mighty message. He describes 2 older people, Simeon and Anna, symbols of wisdom, who recognize this child as the seat of wisdom. Simeon was certain he would not die before seeing the messiah, and would then die in peace. Simeon cradles the baby in his arms, and exclaims, “My eyes have seen the salvation of the Lord”. As for us, with our own third eye, we behold Christ in our families, friends, and yes, even strangers and so-called enemies. With Simeon, we can now embrace our savior fearless of sister death.
