Many Christians might claim their church is the best, the original or even infallible. Often, they base their claim on today’s gospel in which Jesus states: “You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my church.” However, we remember Jesus sought not to initiate a new church but to reform Judaism. There would be no church for generations. Jesus was really beginning a movement of people to himself as representing the fullness of truth, goodness, and love. Therefore, I judge my Christianity as how deeply I live my life in Christ, and judge my church not on its history, power, or income, but on how it helps union with Christ. True Christians do not seek superiority over others but service of others in Christ.
