Weary, Jesus sits at a well, unable to drink because he has no bucket. Despite unforgiving Jewish law, he asks a sinful foreign woman for help. This generates discussion in which Jesus likens this well- water, needed for physical life, to God’s Spirit needed for spiritual life. He helps her to overcome racial, gender, moral and religious bias, and welcomes her into discipleship. Today, Christ speaks with us in the same way. He urges us to recognize God’s Spirit of love in all our relationships and experiences. Everything in your life and mine calls for a Spirit-filled response. Like the woman at the well, let’s leave our physical water jars, and radiate the Spirit of God to all whom we touch
