I have a friend who is consumed with fear of death. After all, as he states, “Death is very cerain and apparently very final”. But, if one believes Jesus, neither is true, for death never really occurs. The living Christ says we do not die, and then assume new life. Rather, the same person lives through death in a transforming way as Jesus shows in today’s gospel. The risen Christ exhibits the same wounds from before death to evidence he is the same person. We will not die, but transform. God will draw us to himself (love) insofar as we have chosen him. What a glorious present and future, resurrection promises! We tread on the road to love, and resurrection represents the great transforming marker on the journey.
