Do you seek passionately a specific goal in your life? Without it, living can become a hum-drum repetition of days. Jesus had such a goal, and, in today’s gospel, recommends it to us, “I have come to set the world on fire”!  Jesus was not speaking of setting physical fires on earth. His fire symbolized the Spirit of God.

He thirsted for all people to live this Spirit of unconditional love. He understands  this will divide even some families, but his goal is consuming, and eventually he will give his life for it. Do you and I  have the courage to embrace this “martyring” experience?  His way of living remains supremely challenging, eminently engrossing, and divinely rewarding. This is the Christianity to which Jesus calls us.
