Today, in this era of “fake news”,spin and outright lying, we need the truth desperately. But what is truth? Jesus responds in today’s gospel with prayer to his Father,”Your word is truth.” God’s word refers not just to a spoken word but to the kind of life we lead. How does my life “stack up” with his? Does Jesus approve my motives and values; and what of my love of family, friends, and neighbors? Jesus exclaimed: “I am the truth.” Can we say that? All this presumes we are learning and pondering his life. Is he important enough for us to resolve to participate at least weekly in a class devoted to him? Just how important is Jesus to you? How intently do you seek the truth?
