These days breed bias and division; and patriarchy (rule by the male gender) stands prominently among those who dominate. Jesus speaks clearly and powerfully about this in today’s gospel. He doesn’t call it sin which it is, but empowers his actions to speak louder. First, he heals a woman who had suffered menstrual disorder for 12 years. Forbidden by law to touch publicly a Judean male, she touches his clothing. More importantly, she touches his heart, and through her faith, she heals.
Jesus then encounters a 12 year old girl who has died. He touches her, and tenderly speaks, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” The girl rises, and walks freely. Yes, Jesus heals, and frees another female with supportive love. Are we willing to walk in his saving sandals?
