Errands; work; meals; relationships! We are a busy people. Jesus was also busy: teaching, travelling, healing. Yet, from the midst of noisy activity, Jesus summons us and all his disciples: “Come away [with me] … to a lonely place, and rest awhile.” Imagine quiet time with Jesus of Nazareth. Reflect on the questions you would ask him: his goals, and source of compassion. How we would revel in his serenity, wisdom, and courage! He transports us from mayhem and noise to peace and love. Still, come to think of it, we can always access and commune with Christ within us. Spiritual writers call this, contemplation: residing by ourselves with Christ and discovering his serene presence in us and in all our relationships.
