Are your waters stormy, and your boat sinking? Are you in deep mental or physical pain? Does it seem God sleeps while you drown? Today’s story of Jesus calming the storm is more about challenges to our faith than violent weather. We all suffer times of desperation whether physical, financial, or relational. Life can appear shattering and hopeless. Even God seems disinterested. I am reminded of my wife and I losing 2 children at birth.Such times resemble Jesus’ time of crushing crucifixion. Then I remember his unconquerable faith: “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” Faith in God’s love calls us to rise from our watery depths, our tombs of despair. Whatever the pain or discouragement, God is greater, and calls us to rise through it, and live lives of resurrection.
