During the winter, shepherds kept their sheep in a protective sheepfold. A low wall with a gate surrounded the fold. The shepherds called their sheep by name, and the sheep recognized the distinctive voice of their own shepherd. Jesus used this as a parable to describe our mutual relationship with him and each other. We know his voice. It speaks of true life: filled with courage, compassion, and peace. But Christ calls us also to be not only good sheep but good shepherds; that is, to call other sheep to him with Christ’s very same message.
Resolve each day to explore Christ’s word, to live it, and to proclaim it.
Shhh! Listen! He is calling your name to give life and to give it more abundantly.
