We often think of resurrection as an amazing event in which Jesus rises from the dead. In a certain way, that’s true. However, today’s gospel points to Jesus not rising physically but transforming spiritually, for John writes of Jesus passing through locked doors. Still, the very same person prevails through death, for he gives evidence of his wounds of death. Resurrection thus become not an end but a spiritual transformation for Jesus as well as all of us. He teaches his ultimate lesson without any words. His presence alone accomplishes that. We are his followers even in living through death, and so we listen, accept, and live his often repeated command: “Do not fear!”
We will not really die but transform into love itself. Alleluia!
