Jesus, in today’s gospel, relates a timely parable in which in which a king (Abba) invites everyone to his banquet, the ultimate compliment from God himself. Jesus emphasizes in this story the Father’s openness to all. Despite the practise of some so-called Christian churches, God embraces women and men; gays and straights; non-christians; black, white, yellow, brown, and red; inviting all humanity. How egregious for us to observe some seeming Christian churches defying today’s gospel by denigrating God’s beloved. Often, tragically, they practise this bias in the name of Christ. Jesus would not tolerate such behavior, and neither must we. Rather, let us urge our churches to accept his beloved, and welcome them in full justice to the feast which is Christianity.
